Boundary algorithms for subdivision surfaces
Abstract
In this paper we construct non-uniform bi-variate
subdivision schemes that generate surfaces satisfying
prescribed boundary conditions. Such a scheme is based
on a known uniform subdivision scheme that operates away
from the boundary, combined with another subdivision
scheme that operates near the boundary, and takes into
consideration the given boundary conditions.
We formulate conditions to establish the smoothness of
the generated limit surface near the boundary, and apply
our algorithms for the construction of smooth surfaces with
boundaries of arbitrary topology.
