Applied Math profile

The Department of Applied Math is one of three departments in the School of Mathematical Sciences, and was the core from which the whole school evolved. The department has a strong tradition of research in classical applied mathematics, involving the modeling, analysis, and numerical approximation of continuum phenomena governed by differential equations. More recently, the department has also placed emphasis on the study of discrete phenomena, which occur in geometric design, image processing, and data analysis. Besides participating in running the undergraduate programs of the School of Mathematical Sciences, the department offers graduate degrees at both the MSc. and PhD levels.
