The conjugacy relation for ergodic measure preserving transformations is not Borel.

ABSTRACT:
This lecture discusses a strong "anti-classification" result for ergodic measure preserving transformations:
The collection of pairs of measure preserving transformations (S, T) such that S is isomorphic to T is NOT a Borel set.
This is interpreted as saying that there is no countable protocal for determining whether S and T are isomorphic.
The theorem is joint work with Dan Rudolph and Benjy Weiss.
