On some old problems in Ergodic Theory

Abstract:

Halmos in his classic 1956 book has a list of 10 unsolved problems. One of them,#9 , has attracted little attention. We will present its solution and a natural generalization with a partial soution. Furstenberg, in his 1967 paper on disjointness asks many questions. One of them is purely probabilistic and we will give a somewhat surprising answer to it.
