HOROWITZ SEMINAR
PROBABILITY, ERGODIC THEORY and DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS
on Monday March 29th 2004
Jon Aaronson, (TAU)
will speak
mixing of stationary processes generated by smooth dynamical systems.
Abstract:
I'll review some mixing properties of stationary stochastic processes, and
how these are generated by smooth dynamical systems using quasi compactness of the relevant
transfer operator (a la Doeblin-Fortet). Then, I'll show that
beta-expansion processes (more generally, class L map processes) are "reverse phi mixing"
(joint work with H. Nakada), thus obtaining natural examples to the asymmetry of "phi mixing"
as most (i.e. a.e.)
beta-expansion processes are not "forward phi mixing",
