Special flows over irrational rotations and the disjointness problem
Abstract:
In 1972 Kochergin noticed that special flows built over irrational rotations
and under functions of bounded variation cannot be mixing. In fact, this
result is a direct consequence of Koksma's inequality. We will show
that over irrational rotations and under functions whose Fourier transform
is of order O(1/n) are even disjoint (in the sense of Furstenberg)
from mixing flows. We will also show that under some additional assumptions
such flows are disjoint from Gaussian flows. This is a joint work with
Krzysztof Fraczek.
