ההרצאה תנתן באנגליתComplex analysis is a fancy name for calculus with complex numbers. In this talk, I will describe a geometric approach to complex analysis. I will begin with a discussion of hyperbolic geometry, where there are infinitely many parallel lines and the sum of the angles in a triangle is less than 180 degrees. These strange properties are consequences of the fact that the hyperbolic plane is negatively curved. If a Möbius transformation is an isometry of the hyperbolic plane, then a finite Blaschke product is an asymptotic isometry. A celebrated theorem of Heins says that up to post-composition with a hyperbolic isometry, there exists a unique finite Blaschke product with a given critical set. The proof involves the Liouville correspondence which provides a link between complex analysis and PDE. I will try to make the talk as self-contained as possible.
