On the Automorphism Group of an Algebraic Function Field of One Variable

We survey the proof of the following fundamental theorem:

Theorem:
Let F/K be a field of algebraic functions in one variable
over a perfect field K,
of genus > 1.
Then Aut(F/K) is a finite group.
