Weil divisors and the Jacobian variety

We introduce the notion of Weil divisors on a large class of well behaved schemes. We analyze their behavior in the case of a smooth projective curve over an algebraically closed field. This leads us to the notion of the Jacobian variety of a curve, by means of whose analysis we deduce important results that prove handy in computing etale cohomology.
