Speaker: Erel Segal-Halevi (Bar Ilan) Title: Fair-and-Square: Fair Division of Land. ABSTRACT: A piece of land has to be divided fairly among several partners. Each partner has a different idea about which parts of the land are better. How can the land be divided such that all partners agree that the division is fair? This problem is in the intersection of computational geometry and economics. Geometrically, it is important that each land-plot has a nice shape, such as a square or a fat polygon. Economically, it is important that each land-plot has a sufficiently high value, defined as the integral of a value-density function over the plot. In this talk, I will present protocols that achieve a division which is both "fair" and "square".
