Transportation:

General information (check http://wikitravel.org/en/Tel_Aviv for a lot of useful information):

  1. When taking a taxi, ask the driver to use the meter ("MO-NE") : it is usually cheaper and he is obligated by law to do so. It is not customary to tip the driver (though it will certainly be appreciated).
  2. There is no local (that is, inside Tel Aviv) public transportation at night (midnight to 6am, taxis excluded).
  3. Single bus tickets are valid "per ride". Thus, if you need to switch buses, you need to buy another ticket (there are some other options). Tickets are bought from the driver when boarding the bus (drivers have change so don't worry if you don't have the exact sum).

Getting from Ben Gurion air port to Tel Aviv:

By taxi: takes about 20-40 minutes (depending on traffic) and costs about 100 NIS. During rush hours (Sunday to Thursday, 7:00-10:00) take the train.

By train (and taxi): The train takes about 15 minutes from station to station and costs 12 NIS. The University is a 5 minutes walk from the "University station". The hotel area and town center are a 10-15 minutes taxi drive from "Tel Aviv Merkaz" station which costs 20-30 NIS.

Getting around inside Tel Aviv:

You can check routes and timetables in the Dan (the local bus company) website (unfortunately, only some of it is in English):

http://www.dan.co.il/english

Getting to the University:

There will be a daily shuttle bus from the hotel area (hotels: Alexander Suites, Lusky Suites, Maxim, Renaissance, Yamit Park Plaza, Sheraton Moria; a timetable will be added shortly) to the university and back. Other than that, buses from the city that go to the University include 7, 25, 27, 45.
