Higgs bundles on nodal curves
Abstract
In I987 Nigel Hitchin proved that the moduli space of Higgs bundles on a smooth
projective curve (of genus greater than equal to 2) has a natural symplectic
structure. In this talk I will briefly recall a few features of the moduli space. Then
I will discuss the moduli spaces of Higgs bundles on nodal curves and how they are
related to the moduli spaces of Higgs bundles on smooth curves via nice degenerations.
I will also show that there is a relative log-symplectic structure on such a
degeneration.
