The 32 personalities from the Encyclopedia of Great Men in
Israel form the sample (Table 2) on which the statistical
significance is reported in [WRR94]. Here, each personality is
described by an entry of the form
- Personality;
N:
name item, ... name item;
D:
date item, ... date item.
For example, the first personality (Rabbi Abraham) has 5 name
items (for his 5 names) and 3 date items (for the 3 forms of his
birth or death date). A name item, for example,

- The name in Hebrew, written from the right to the left.
Hebrew letters are converted (Michigan-Clairmont
transliteration scheme described on my "Hebrew transliteration" page) into upper-case Latin
letters and additional symbols ")", "(", "+", "$". The name
is enclosed into square brackets, [...].
- R 22
- The search for ELS's was restricted to skips 2, 3, ... 22
(in both directions).
As explained on my "Step 1-2"
page, the restriction (D=22) is set such that
(approximately) 10 matches are expected.
- 13
- The actual number of ELS's mathching the word (within the
skip restriction). By clicking it you can see all the 13
ELS's in the form explained on my "Data
4" page.
One more example of a name item:

Here "U 0.7" means that the search for ELS's was unrestricted
(extended to all skips possible for a 8-letter word) and only
0.7 matchings were expected. (The actual number of matchings is
surely integral, but its expectation is not.) No ELS matches the
name.
