Undergraduate seminar homework #1
To be handed in by Tuesday, March 23, 1998.
 Find the continued fraction expansion of 21/13, 7^{1/2},
61^{1/2}

Show that equivalent quadratic irrationalities have the same
discriminant.

Show that if
a=[a_{0},a_{1},...,a_{k}] then its
conjugate satisfies
1/a' =
[a_{k},a_{k1},...,a_{0}].

If d>0 is not a square then d^{1/2} =
[a_{0};a_{1},...,a_{k}]
Optional: Also a_{k} = 2 a_{0}.
